Animality better than Humanity?

"If having a soul means to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of human beings." - James Herriot

Indeed this quote makes sense now, I am sure most of you would be aware by now of the very disheartening incident that took place in Kerala involving a pregnant elephant who ate a pineapple filled with firecrackers and I am also sure that most of you only half the picture of what actually happened there.

Here's the full story:

On May 25, in the village of Palakkad, Kerala, a pregnant elephant came strolling into the village for food and ate a pineapple which had firecrackers filled in it. The fruit exploded in her mouth which broke her jaw. She then entered the Velliyar river in Malappuram, standing in the water for hours where she eventually died hours later, despite efforts to rescue her.

The fruit was indeed planted by humans but it was not for the elephant, the pineapple was kept for the wild boars that come and destroy crops and infect other animals. Kerala government had given permission to shoot these wild boars because of the hazard they spread. This move was not intentional and as soon the people of the village came to know about this, they arranged for the rescue of the elephant and informed the officials. The Indian media is drawing conclusions on the exaggerated picture they drew on their own.

In this whole incident the most shameful thing was the response of media.
For no reason at all they dragged politicians into it and were conducting a debate on who's fault was it. As usual no person left any stone unturned to blame it on the opposing party. Did any meaningful result came out of it?

This incident caused a nationwide outrage against animal cruelty but as it is a custom in India, people will forget this as soon as something new comes on the news. So am I saying that whatever happened was right? No, not at all but we should not blame anyone without knowing the whole story.

Many of you might be knowing about another similar incident which took place in Bilaspur district near Shimla. A man was arrested on an allegation by the owner of a pregnant cow that he injured the bovine by feeding her some eatables mixed with explosives.

The owner in the same is Gurdial Singh, accusing his neighbor Nand Lal Dhiman behind injuring the pregnant animal.

When the police visited the crime spot based on the complain by the owner of the cow with medical aid, they found out that the cow's mouth and jaws were heavily injured. The police also registered a case in this regard on the same date in response to the cow owner.

Also people should notice the nature of protests which is prevalent in our country. An average person in today's generation protests by posting a picture, report or writing a message about the incident. Is that sufficient? Expressing your feelings towards something is not wrong at all but does that suffice the reason for the protest? It truly feels like the protests which are carried out now a days lacks the motive to actually bring the change and being trending on social media site in enough for its purpose.

Please comment if you disagree with any point that I made.
I would love to hear your side of the thinking as well.

THANK YOU
